Boswella is an herb which has an anti-inflammatory and
anti-arthritic action in acute and chronic models of inflammation. It does
not produce an analgesic effect, but suppresses inflammation, the
underlying cause of pain. Boswella reduces joint swelling and morning
stiffness, increases mobility and reduces arthritic pain.
Leukotrienes are considered to be involved in the
initiation and continuation of a variety of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis,
rheumatism, colitis, psoriasis, asthma, etc. Leukotrienes cause
inflammation by promoting free radical damage, calcium dislocation,
auto-immune responses, cell adhesion and the migration of inflammatory
producing cells to the inflamed body area. Boswella blocks the synthesis
of leukotrienes, which is how it inhibits inflammation.
Boswellic acids are from the natural gums and resins of
Boswellia serrata, a large branching tree found in the hilly regions of
India. Boswellic acids have been the focus of an extensive clinical study
validating traditional ayurvedic use.
