Remember in the old days, before Computers filled the space under the hoods of our
cars, when the manufacturer supplied you with a concise, and understandable "Owners
Manual" for the machine? And you knew that, if you followed the instructions
implicitly, the car would run forever?
Well, that's the sort of book Sam Graci has provided you with. You follow his
suggestions, and you'll run forever, long after your friends are hospitalized and
wheelchaired. And he shows you how to make it fun to live so well, for this is not a doom
and gloom tome of the awful things which will happen to you if you don't follow the rules.
He knows you'll cheat a little (we all do!), and he goes on to explain how to find the
rails again, and get on board.
Each of the well thought out chapters (there are 16 of them) explains the theory behind
the ideas in simple, understandable language, and then goes on to set the nutritional
boundaries which need to be observed. Each has Summaries and Action Plans which you will
need, and want to come back to often, for there is too much in this book to absorb in one
reading - no matter how knowledgeable you are, and how good your memory is.
This is not an "if you suffer from this, take that" book. What it sets out is
a total philosophy of how to live a happy, healthy life in a way which, though there are
rules to be followed, will not ostracize you from "normal" people. Sure, you
won't frequent the burger joints as much (if at all) but what's so memorable about them
anyway? The ambience?
The chapter on Weight Management alone is worth the price of the book. It
explains why diets don't work; why some can be dangerous and how you can keep on eating
while you trim up, and stay trim. Sure, you need to adopt a few new ways of ordering your
life such as exercise (the right kind), but hey, what significant changes this will bring
over time - not just in appearance and self esteem, but in real, lasting health, which you
have brought about yourself. And its lasting!
I found many of the Chapters, such as the one on Water - High Performance Superdrink
Graci calls it - reinforcing things I had learned many years ago; many partly forgotten,
many more only partly practiced. One need to be reminded of the holistic truths now and
again.
There are chapters on why women and men require different nutrition to keep them
healthy; how to deal with stress, and spiritual fitness.
Three chapters are written by contributing authors: Harvey Diamond on The Clean
Machine; Dr. Sweitzer on the use of Superfoods; a whole chapter of recipes by Jeanne Marie
Martin and a Foreword by Dr. Julian Whitaker.
You cannot come away from reading this book without a few basic health rules sticking
in your mind: If its fresh and colorful - eat it! If its clear and pure and water - drink
it until its coming out of your ears! And if it makes you sweat gently, do it, and do it
regularly!
If you picked up this book believing it would be a promotion for the Author's
GREENS+
product as so many "health" books are these days, you will be pleasantly
surprised. Yes. There is a whole chapter on GREENS+, the supplement, but it is almost lost
in the wonderful explanations of how to assure your health naturally. But, as we all know,
good food is hard to come by these days, and it is comforting to know what to buy to
compensate for the lack of nutrition in our regular diet.
